There are many images and symbols out there that can represent the air pollution issue in China:

Jinan
To measure air quality there is this index called Air Quality Index. The AQI reports daily air quality, telling you how clean or polluted your air is, and what associated health effects might be a concern for you. The scale runs from 0 to 500, the higher the AQI, the greater the level of air pollution.
FUN FACT!
There is an App called Airpocalypse AQI that tells you the air quality levels in Chinese cities.
